Your Library Card

Your Kinnelon Public Library card can be used at any M.A.I.N. Library Alliance member library.

Returning Items

Items may be returned in person at either KPL Circulation Desk or in the Book Drop outside the library. Most items may also be returned at any M.A.I.N. Library Alliance member library.

Overdue items will be automatically charged to the Borrower’s account. There is a one day “grace period” for items returned in the outside Book Drop and for Holidays and Summer Hours.

Damaged or Lost Item charges will be charged to the Borrower’s account at the discretion of the owning library.

Fees and Fines should be paid as soon as possible.

Renewals

Kinnelon Public Library items may be renewed for the length of the original loan. See the Borrowing Books & Media chart (above) for item loan length and number of renewals eligible.

There are several ways to renew:

  • Call (973) 838-1321
  • Visit the Information Desk at the Library
  • Log in to your Library Account using your username or library card barcode and PIN

Please note that Renewals are disabled when another Patron has placed a Hold on the title.

Auto-Renew: Titles eligible for Renewal (and have no Holds by another Patron) will automatically renew.

Holds

  • Search our catalog. Select the title you want to place on Hold. Select “Place a request.”
  • Type in your username or library card barcode and PIN.
  • “Select a pickup library” (Kinnelon Public Library will be the default pickup location for all KPL card holders, but you may choose an alternate M.A.I.N. location if desired.)
  • Choose “Submit Request”

When you receive a notification that your requested item(s) is available, please visit the Information Desk to have a staff member assist you in claiming your Hold.

Items on Hold must be picked up within one week from notification. Items on Hold beyond one week will be returned to the “owning” library.

For your convenience, Kinnelon Public Library offers curbside pickup Hold service. When you receive a notification that your requested item(s) is ready, call the Information Desk at (973) 838 – 1321 with the last six digits of your library card barcode. A staff member will checkout and bag your Hold(s) which can be retrieved at our curbside pickup cart near our Book Drop.

Inter-Library Loans

If Kinnelon Public Library does not have the item you’re looking for on our shelves, use the M.A.I.N. Library Alliance catalog to request items to place on Hold. Please note, new items, popular books, and high-demand media may not be loaned at the discretion of the owning library.

To place an Inter-Library Loan, please follow the Holds steps.

Fees, Fines, & Lost Materials

All Fines and Fees must be paid in person at the Information Desk.

The Borrower is responsible for all materials charged out on their card. Parents, guardians, or caregivers are responsible for all materials checked out by their children for whom they have signed library card applications.

Late Fees are charged as specified in the Borrowing Books & Media chart (above).

Damages beyond reasonable wear will be assessed by the owning library and paid by the Borrower. Lost Materials will be charged replacement costs and processing fees, paid by the Borrower. The owning library will notify the patron of the replacement cost by phone, mail, or email. When the Damaged or Lost Item has been paid for, the item will be removed from the Borrower’s records at the discretion of the owning library.

Borrowing privileges will be suspended for patrons who have fees in excess of $5.00. When the charges have been settled, privileges will be restored.

Kinnelon Public Library cannot settle, waive, or remove any Fees or Fines incurred from any other library.
