Friends of Kinnelon Public Library

The Friends of the Kinnelon Public Library is a registered 501(c)(3) non- profit organization, run by volunteers dedicated to focusing public attention on the library to promote the use of its resources and services. Our primary mission is to develop the library as the educational, informational, and cultural center of the community and to raise funds for the exclusive benefit of the library. Your support does make a difference!

History of the Friends

Founded in 1979, the Friends of the Kinnelon Public Library is an all volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to focusing public attention on the library to promote the use of its resources and services . The Friends are also instrumental in raising funds in support of the library for programs and services to supplement funding by the Borough of Kinnelon and the Kinnelon Library Board of Trustees.

The continuing goal is to establish the library as the educational, informational, and cultural center for people of all ages in the community. Our strength is in our members whose belief in the library’s importance and value has for almost thirty years generated continuing support of the library, both financially and through volunteer service.

The Kinnelon Library is the educational, informational and cultural center of our community. The Library is not only used by Kinnelon residents, but also by hundreds of non-Kinnelon residents who take advantage of and benefit from the many programs provided through the Center for Lifelong Learning (CLL) as well as Friends cultural activities and the Library’s many other services.

This year alone, more than 400 non-Kinnelon students from over 30 surrounding communities will have participated in the CLL Program. The strength of the Friends of the Kinnelon Library is in our members, whose belief in the Library’s importance prompts them to support the Library, both financially and as volunteers.

It takes money to have a Library. The financial support of the Friends and CLL is vital to ensure that the library continues to flourish and expand its resources and provide the facilities to meet the needs of the 3,700 households in Kinnelon, and to run programs like the CLL that are open to all.

Forever in Stone

If you are interested in getting a personalized paver installed at the Kinnelon Library as a lasting gift or memorial, they may be purchased for $75 each.  Your purchase will give you a permanent, personal memorial in the community asset that is the Kinnelon Library.  Each 4″ x 8″ paver provides space for up to 3 lines of 13 characters each (including spaces and punctuation).  This is a tax-deductible purchase.  Payment must accompany each order, and once an order is accepted no refunds can be provided.  Program administrators determine placement of engraved pavers.  It may be up to 90 days before a paver is placed due to the time needed to engrave and due to weather concerns.

If you have any questions about this program, please call the Kinnelon Library at (973) 838-1321 x262 and leave a message. You will be contacted as soon as possible. Order forms are always available at the Library and on the website.

Below, you can find an example of how to properly fill out the paver application form:

Service Directory

The Kinnelon Service Directory is a community service guide provided free of charge as a public service to all Kinnelon households and organizations.  The Directory is updated each year and is a comprehensive, informative, accurate and detailed source of information on organizations, hospitals, churches, borough and local services, emergency numbers of the town, county and pertinent state and federal agencies.  Packaged as an easy-to-use booklet, it is a great informational resource for use on a daily basis. For over 35 years the Directory has been funded by the Friends of the Kinnelon Library and by the support of our business community.  As a result, the information provided has expanded and become even more valuable as a source of key community information. The Directory is a free publication, mailed to each home and business in Kinnelon, and is also available to patrons visiting the Kinnelon Library.
