TEEN SUMMER EVENTS!

Check out these great summer events for teens (entering grades 6 and higher in the fall):

Open Video Game Play and Teen Crafternoons: Three Wednesdays, July 8, 15, and 22 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. This summer, we’re combining two great activities, video games and crafts. Choose whichever one – or both! – that you’re interested in and stop by to see us. We’ll be playing video games in one meeting room, so bring your Wii or PS2 games (no “M” games, please!) or come play ours. Meanwhile, we’ll also be doing some great teen-oriented crafts, including the ever popular button-making, which allows you to create customized buttons featuring images of your favorite bands, characters, or symbols. Come spend an afternoon with us!

Twilight Party: Tuesday, July 14th from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. We’ll screen the “Twilight” movie starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, have popcorn and “Twilight”-related snacks (Edward’s Cold Kisses!), and even make a “Twilight” keepsake you can take home.

Guitar Hero Tournament: Tuesday, July 21st from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Join us for our one and only Guitar Hero event of the summer. As we’ve done in the past, we’ll have practice rounds, a tournament divided by expertise and age level, and both Guitar Hero 2 and 3, with one game projected onto the big screen. And, of course, there will be food and prizes, too!

End of Summer / Teen Volunteer Party: Wednesday, August 5th from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. Help us say good-bye to another successful Summer Reading Program! Teen volunteers will have a separate party on this night, featuring pizza, snacks, video games, and a scavenger hunt with prizes. We’ll rejoin the main party for the announcement of the grand prize winners, during which the volunteers will also be specially acknowledged for all their hard work.

You can find the full slate of Summer Reading activities -- for children right up through adults -- by visiting our Calendar Page. Happy Summer!

The American Library Association (ALA) has announced winners of awards for the best of the best in teen and middle grade fiction. The Newbery Medal is given to the "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children." Think of the Newbery as an award for middle school or upper elementary school books. This year, ALA awarded the Newbery to "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman. ALA gives the Printz Award to the book that best "exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature." These books are all "young adult" or "teen" novels. This year's winner of the Printz is "Jellicoe Road" by Melina Marchetta. Check out the charts below for all the award winners and honor books, and be sure to click on any that look interesting to learn more about them in our Library Catalog.

Trivia Games!

Twilight Trivia

Although it doesn't cover "Breaking Dawn," the fourth and final book in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight saga, this Twilight Trivia Game will test your knowledge of the first three books in the series. Click here or on the image above to play Round One. The game is set up just like a regular Jeopardy! board. Click the dollar amount and use the forward arrow key to reveal the question and then the answer on each individual screen. When you're done with each question, make sure you use the "Home" link in the lower right corner of each individual question screen to return directly to the main board. When you're ready for Round Two, please click here. The same directions apply. Have fun Twilight fans!

Inheritance Cycle Trivia

Fear not, "Inheritance Cycle" fans, we've got you covered, too! In this trivia game created right before the launch of "Brisingr," you can test your knowledge of "Eragon" and "Eldest." The same rules apply as with the Twilight Trivia. Click here or on the image directly above to play Round One. You can then move on to Round Two by clicking right here. Enjoy!

Star Wars Trivia

Last, but certainly not least, here's something for the many, many fans of the "Star Wars" universe. This trivia game covers all six "Star Wars" movies, from the original trilogy ("Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi") through the prequel trilogy ("The Phantom Menace," "Attack of the Clones," and "Revenge of the Sith"). Want to see how much you really know about "Star Wars"? Then click here or on the picture of the "Star Wars" Jeopardy! board directly above to play Round One. And don't forget to check out Round Two of "Star Wars" trivia by clicking here.
